I wasn’t sure of what to think of this book when I first picked it up. And I still haven’t got a clue to what I am reading after a few chapters. But, Die For Me had this mysterious thing about it that kept me reading.
Die for Me set up in Paris. After losing their parents in an accident, Kate and Georgia move to Paris to stay with their grandparents (who they called Mamie and Papy). Kate began to spend her times reading books to get her mind off her parents. Then one day, she meets Vincent Delacroix, a handsome French guy and the two fall in love. But of course, Vincent wasn’t an ordinary guy. Then everything begins to change as Kate learns about Vincent’s secret.
Amy Plum did a great job describing Paris in her writing. I like that Amy Plum decided to write about revenant (the undead) rather than the usual vampire. It’s refreshing. My first thought after the first half of the book is that the story progress’s a bit too slow. But then, Amy began to explain about revenant, and I knew that Amy Plum was trying to build the backbone for the story. And Amy Plum did a good job with that.
The main character, Kate was an independent woman. Although it was hard for her to move on after her parent’s death, she tried her best so that she didn’t make the others worried about her. I like that Amy Plum describe her as normal as possible – that there were times where she shows her weakness and strength. Vincent was, well, if I had to say it in one word, I’d say, hot! The other supporting characters were likeable and well developed. They made the story even more powerful and gripping. I love that everyone seems to have their own character. It was hard not to love the supporting characters individually.
Overall, Die for Me was a beautiful love story between a human and a revenant. It is about sacrifice and taking risk for love. Would you risk your life for love? Would you risk your heart to be broken again for love? What would you do to protect your love?
Although I did say that I wasn’t so sure about the story at the beginning, I can’t help but wanting to know what will happen to Kate and Vincent in the next book.
Book Cover's Description
My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.
Suddenly, my sister, Georgia and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.
Mysterious, sexy and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.
Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies...immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.
While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart - as well as my life and my family's - in jeopardy for a chance at love?
Thanks for this review! I've been hearing some mixed feelings on it. The capture was the first thing to capture my attention and I immediately took note of the book because of that. I've been hearing comparisons of it to other stories though which made me a bit unsure about it. I think I'll check it out at the library though as you gave it a pretty good review (:
