Inkdeath (Inkworld #3)

Life in the Inkworld has been far from easy since the extraordinary events of Inkspell, when the story of Inkheart magically drew Meggie, Mo and Dustfinger back into its pages. With Dustfinger dead, and the evil Adderhead now in control, the story in which they are all caught has taken an unhappy turn. Even Elinor, left alone in the real world, believes her family to be lost - lost between the covers of a book. But as winter comes on there is reason to hope - if only Meggie and Mo can rewrite the wrongs of the past and make a dangerous pact with death.

It is safe to say that Inkheart Series is one of my favorite series of all time. Cornelia Funke has succeeded in delivering the story and put it all together without lose ends.

Inkdeath was a bit darker and slow than the other two books – inkheart and inkspell. There were a lot of death and suffering of people in the Ink World since Inkspell. In previous book, Inskpell, Mo had bind Adderhead a book of immortality and the only way to kill him was to write three words into the same book. And because of this, Adderhead wants Mo dead. 

The characters changed a lot! Mo, the bookbinder for example was tangled with the story when he start playing the character, Bluejay – a character like Robin Hood which Fenoglio created with writing a song about him. Somehow, I get the feeling that Mo become sad and lonely in this book.  The other characters went through a lot of trial that they have become stronger and brave. I love the relationship between Maggie, Mo and Resa. I love how Maggie and Resa are constantly worried about Mo. They showed how important it is to stay as family.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed every bit of adventure the characters went through – like how Mo went to the castle to save the children or the part where he went to see the white woman to save Dust finger.  And the part where Darius read both him and Elinor into the book and Elinor is now reunited with her family!

The world of Inkheart in my opinion is a wonderful one. The writing was beautiful! Reading it makes you want to get into the book along with the other characters. I wanted to see Ombra, fire dancer, the black prince and his bear and so much more. I understood right away how Maggie and the others felt when they wanted to get themselves into the book to experience the world of Inkheart. I would recommend anyone to read this series.

Book Review: Inkspell

Amazing! Inkspell is a great sequel to Inkheart.

In the first book, Inkheart, Meggie and Mo read characters out from a novel, Inkheart. And this time, we get to see Meggie, Mo, and her mother, Resa read themselves into the novel. How exciting is that!?

When Meggie found out that someone read Dustfinger back into the world of Inkheart, she was determined to follow him and Farid. They need to warn Dustfinger of what Basta and Mortola was about to do to them. And soon, with the help of Orpheus, Mo and Resa was now sucked into the book. Things have become out of hand. Now, Meggie seek for Fegnolio, the creator of Inkheart for help. Afterall, Fegnolio is the one who could save Meggie and her parents. But, things were not going to as what Meggie and Fegnolio planned when the characters and story get out of control, and refuse to listen to the creator.

There’s a little bit of Robin Hood references when Fegnolio decided to model Bluejay, after Robin Hood, who steals from the rich to give to the poor.  When Fegnolio writes about Bluejay, he always imagined Mo as the character. So, when Mo was sucked into the world of Inkheart, everyone assumes him as the real Bluejay.

The world of Inkheart is somewhere I would very love to live in. There’s fairy, the black princes, the Wayless Wood, magic and everything. It sounded wonderful. The story is amazing. I love Meggie and her adventure along with Farid, Dustfinger and Fegnolio to save her parents, Mo and Resa. It was full of suspense! I love the little bit of romance between Farid and Meggie. The ending to the story was both exciting and sad.

I can’t wait to read the next book, Inkdeath to know what will happen to the characters next! I’m sure it is as exciting as Inkheart and Inkdeath.

I watched the movie years ago and I love it. When I found out that the movie was based on a book, naturally, I have to find out about the book, and read it. The movie and the book version are totally different.

Years ago, something happened when Mo reads aloud from Inkheart. The character; Dustfinger, Capricorn and Basta came out from the book and his wife, Teresa went in. Mo founds out that he have a gift to make the story and characters comes to life when he reads aloud. He never wants to read aloud from a book ever again.

It has been 9 years since then. Mo is now living with his 12 years old daughter, Meggie as he works as a book doctor. One day, Dustfinger appeared to warn him that Capricorn was looking for him. Now the three of them run away to hide with Elinor, Teresa’s aunt. But Capricorn men found him. In order to save Meggie, Mo went with Capricorn’s men. Now, Meggie with Elinor and Dustfinger is going after Mo to save him. And Meggie started to learn things that her father been hiding from her for years – her mother’s whereabouts and her father’s ability.

I love the idea of Inkheart where the characters from a book come to life. I bet lots of readers dreamed of their favorite character come to life. I know I did. It was a very exciting idea.

Inkheart suck me in from the very beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed Meggie and his father adventure to rescue each other. I adore the father-daughter relationship. The middle of the story was a bit slow. But I’m glad that the ending picked up its pace. I love that the ending was not written in rush.  I could see that the author, Cornelia Funke had planned the story very carefully.

The only thing that I regret is that I watched the movie to refresh my memory in the middle of reading. I really shouldn’t do that next time. Anyhow, I’m really excited to read Inkspell next! I wonder what the author had to offer in the next book. I hope it is as exciting as the first one.
