Percy, Annabeth, Thalia and Grover were on a mission to help two demi-gods. But something went wrong when they were attacked by Dr. Thorn, a manticore. A group of huntress; led by the goddess, Artemis appeared to help them and Annabeth went missing in the struggle. Artemis then went on a quest to search for this monster, leaving her huntress with the half-blood camp.

But then, the huntress found out that Artemis went missing. Five people among the campers and huntress were chosen to go through the quest – to find Artemis before the winter solstice, excluding Percy. Determined to save Annabeth, Percy went out and followed the group on his own.

I found the third book of Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is much better than the second one. I like the storyline much better than the previous one. I thoroughly enjoyed Percy’s and his friends’ adventure to save Annabeth and Artemis. It was definitely fast-paced and entertaining. I have to say that I am definitely surprised with the twist at the end of the book. I look forward to read Percy’s next adventure.

Book Review: The Sea of Monsters

My sister loaned the second book of Percy Jackson and the Olympians to me. She loves Rick Riordan’s work, and had refused to read other books by other writer when I offered her to. When I told her that The Sea of Monsters is a bit dull as compared to The Lightning Thief, she thought that there’s something wrong with me. She told me that the second book is better than the first one. Apparently we didn’t share the same thought.

In The Sea of Monsters, Percy had a dream hinted that Grover was in danger. Soon, he found out that camp half blood too was in danger as Thalia tree is poisoned. To restore Thalia tree back to normal Percy and Annabeth along with Percy’s half brother, Tyson, broke out of camp half and headed to the sea of monster to find a Fleece to heal Thalia tree and to save Grover.

Somehow I found that the second book is boring as compared to the first one, which might have explained why it took me days to finish this although it was a short one. I’m not quite sure what I didn’t like about the book. Perhaps it was the unnatural dialogue? The boring adventure? Or Percy’s point of view itself?

But I know for sure that I love the ending. It was very surprising :)

Admittedly, I watched the movie before I read the book. My little sister warned me that the book is totally different than the movie. She was right. The book was different and way better than the movie.

Percy Jackson is a 12 years old boy who was sent to a boarding school for trouble kid with dyslexia and ADHD. Strange things started to happen when his math teacher, Mrs Todd, attacked him and disappeared. Suddenly everyone in his class had no idea who Mrs Todd is.

It was during summer vacation that he found out that his best friend, Grover is a Satyr and that he is a half-blood or a demigod. To save Percy from monsters attack, his mother and Grover took him to a Camp Half-Blood. Sadly, Percy lost his mother when they were attacked by a Minotaur. It was in the Camp Half-Blood that he discovered that he is a son of Poseidon, the god of sea and that he was accused of stealing something which belonged to Zeus. Percy then teamed up with Grover and Annabeth, daughter of Athena to retrieve the stolen item and stop the war between the gods.

What I really love about The Lightning Thief is the narration which was written in Percy’s point of view. It was entertaining and not annoying, easy to follow and it keeps me wanting to read more. The humor was hilarious. I love Percy’s character and his fun sidekicks. I think Rick Riordan have done a good job portraying what is it that a twelve years old boy thinking. Although there were times where I think that his attitude didn’t seems like he was twelve. But Riordan’s writing is good. I’m looking forward to read the second book.
